We are very grateful to Coventry Council and BT for designing and organising these tours for the Summit Delegates.

STUDY TOUR 1: Your Local Future

Coventry is championing transformation developments and setting a new framework for the regeneration of the city.  This walking tour will provide delegates with an understanding of the exciting £300m retail-led development plans to transform the city centre. It will include a tour of the recently completed phase 1 of a bold project to transform the public realm in the city centre, which resulted in an extremely positive reaction from residents, developers, investors and visitors to the city this summer. Delegates will also hear the plans for the £1.5bn landmark Friargate development around the train station which will create a vibrant and welcoming entrance to the city. There will also be an opportunity to hear the ‘new story for Coventry and Warwickshire’ which will link these developments and develop the ‘place’.

STUDY TOUR 2: The Expectation of Prosperity

With an outstanding reputation for events, conferences, corporate events and home to Coventry City football club, this study tour will provide an introduction and brief history of the Ricoh Arena, followed by a tour of the 32,609 seater stadium, the 6,000 square-metre exhibition hall, hotel, leisure club, and casino.

STUDY TOUR 3: Doing Less with Less / A Democratic Path

Coventry’s Positive Youth Foundation is a registered charity, established with the purpose of supporting the most vulnerable young people and communities across the Midlands. Last year, 2,127 young people attended Positive Youth Foundation Projects, involving nearly 47,000 contact hours with young people and thanks to Positive Youth Foundation, hundreds of young people are now in education, employment and training.  This study tour will provide a tour of the newly built Academy and an opportunity to meet the Positive Youth Foundation team to discuss the recent move from local authority in to a Social Enterprise model delivering a range of targeted youth and community services. Delegates will also have the chance to meet a group of young people who benefit from Positive Youth Foundation services who will discuss the impact of the provision on their communities.

STUDY TOUR 4: An Informed Future

Coventry is at the heart of innovation, technology and creativity and this study tour will provide delegates with an exclusive insight into the groundbreaking work of the city’s Serious Games Institute, Health Design and Technology Institute and Institute of Creative Enterprise. The tour will harness the expertise of Coventry University students and entrepreneurs, and convert policy into practice. Delegates will be taken on a whistle stop tour of the Institute of Creative Enterprise and receive a presentation on how the University work with the local authority to support creative enterprise amongst graduates and the wider community; a tour of the Health Design and Technology Institute to learn how the HDTI supports the development of innovative community healthcare products and services, serving the ageing population and people with disabilities and long term conditions and a tour of the Serious Games Institute, a new model for industrial/higher education partnerships, combining advanced research with business incubation, digital media clustering and sophisticated networking, training and demonstration facilities.
